Level Editor

Overview

Physics Game will allow people to make their own levels and post them on the Internet for all to enjoy. This page is there to help you on the way to create content. A level is created and published in 3 easy steps

  1. Create all content you need (you can also just re-use what is already there)
  2. You arrange your level
  3. You upload the level and all bits to this site

Let look into each step[ in a bit more detail.

The Object Editor

Physics Game comes with a simple object editor that allows you to create objects of all types. But before we start it might be worth looking into the object types that exist:

3d

Meshes

These objects are the basic building blocks fora Level. They can be tvm files, or primatives which have been defined already for you. Boxes, pyramids, spheres…all the basic stuff you need to build a level.

Complex

Complex

A complex object is basically a bunch of primitives glued together. They are joined together permanently and can not be separated. You can define these for yourself or re-use what is there.

Group

Group

A Group is there to keep things simple. For example you can make a wall out of bricks (primitives) and put a flag on top (compound Mesh). You can reuse this build by making it into a group. Simple.

Compound

Compound

You use compound objects when you want to define a single physics zone for a set of objects. you basically decide how collisions and so on should happen and what the whole thing is made of. If only the computer could guess this stuff, but alas, the designer has to do the thinking for now.

For now you will probably need only the primitives and the groups but we’ll see how you get on and as long as you know that you have very few limits in this world you’ll be fine. So lets look at the level editor and what tools you have here:

Level

Level Menu

Create New, Load Levels, Save Levels delete levels, copy levels, publish and un-publish levels That sort of thing. You also find here the settings for your level such as gravity, background and so on.

Objects

Objects

Here you can pick the objects you wish to add to your Level. This includes definition of new objects, changing behaviour of existing objects and saving them back as new objects.

View

View

This menu lets you switch between the different Modes of the Level Editor. You can simply View it, Edit it, play it, settle it (all objects are rendered and there x,y,z coordinates are adjusted until objects have found a resting position) and more

Tools

Tools

Depending on what mode you are in you will find all relevant tools here. So for objects you will find editors here for shape changes, for the Level you will find formatting tools here and so on. Let us know if we forgot something.

help

Help

We are trying to make things as obvious and easy to use as we can. So don’t expect much help. Basically this page is it. If anyone wants to start a help page or wiki for this then we’ll link to it. But we want to spend more time on development and less time on writing. Sorry.

So there you have level on. Below you can see a list of icons and a one word explanation of what it is there for. Good luck and keep those levels coming….the more the better
